Online Course: Visual Literacy - Making Connections with Works of Art
Course begins October 17 and ends November 18. The last day to enroll is Monday, October 31.
This five-week course explores the relevance of visual literacy in the classroom and its connection to the NC Essential Standards. The course includes opportunities for educators to practice concept mapping, inquiry-based discussion, and multimodal activities in their own classrooms and reflect within a collaborative peer learning community. Participants learn effective strategies to guide student discussions about works of art and create a portfolio of visual literacy activities based on the North Carolina Museum of Art's collection. Participants will gain an understanding of the relevance of visual literacy in the classroom and how strategies can support the ELA Anchor Standards for Literacy as they practice and apply literacy related activities focused on comprehension, vocabulary and fluency.
This course is designed for teachers of all disciplines and audiences.
A Certificate of Participation for 10 hours will be provided (1.0 CEU credit, with prior approval from the local school system)
