Gardens by 2nd graders

DESCRIPTION:

I preloaded the Essential Standard goals onto the map before I presented it to my 2nd grade class.  We spent about 20 minutes making observations and I was the recorder for the students. They loved watching their words being summarized and appearing in type on the projector screen.  I used this exercise to stimulate art discussion/critique.  It also led to what does "Perspective" really mean; how depth is depicted on the artwork; and also from the perspective or thoughts of the artist; and how the viewer interpreted.  This map works with second grade because of their Science weather unit. Our followup activity is to use our courtyard outside the art room as a subject for a garden picture.  We will then compare our works to this concept map and see similarities, differences.
